About the Project
I built this harp in my Engineering 1 class at The Athenian School. Its strings are laser beams. Each laser shines down on a photoresistor, and when your hand breaks a beam, an Arduino plays that string’s note, so you play it by swiping across the strings like a real harp. I started with a single laser and photoresistor, then built a cardboard prototype before laser-cutting the final wooden frame. I also designed 3D-printed mounts to hold the lasers, and a fog machine makes the beams visible.
